This weekend I started Mandarin lessons through a company called I Mandarin. The class is from 1-4pm every Sat and Sunday. It runs through the middle of September. In total the class will allow me 50 hrs of training. I also purchased an additional 40 hours of private lessons to be used after that.
The first two days of the class were hard. Our two days focused on learning the basics of ping yin (the writing of Chinese in roman letters). I thought it’d be easy to grasp but it’s challenging to train your brain to remember that an “X”, “Q” “J” (etc.) in ping yin sounds different than it does in English.
I’m hopeful that in time it will get better and that I’ll have a chance to put my learning to practical use.
